My releases this year…
…are going to be (I’ve just decided) bi-platform or tri-platform musicdisks, probably multiformat, for Windows, Linux and Mac. They’ll have a shared codebase, different GUIs and a built-in wavewriter with mp3 encoder so that people can download the tiny exe then generate an album’s worth of mp3s at whatever quality they choose to take away and listen to.
How about that for a manifesto? I’m blogging it in case someone nicks the idea (which I just blurted out on IRC, like a fool). Well, it’s not a particularly original idea…but in the context of railing against my nemesis, the chip-music CD release, it’s at least some sort of principled stand. And bandwidth-friendly, ergo environment-friendly! Okay, that’s a stretch… But still.

A fine manifesto indeed.

Cheers – it might even happen! Better get learning my SDL :)

A great idea. I love musicdisks, but the obvious drawback is that you can’t add them to your iTunes (or whatever). Spitting out MP3s solves this rather well!
Just a thought: you could add some random / generative elements, so every MP3 produced is a unique variation…
